Anderson native Nelson parlays love of racing into Nextel crew chief position

After eating a ton of dirt on area motocross courses for eight years, Mike Nelson of Anderson decided he would craft a career for himself in sports with his mind.

The result was his appointment in December as crew chief for Penske Racing driver Ryan Newman in the No. 12 Alltel Dodge.
