Ryan Newman FInished 42nd in The Allstate 400 at the Brickyard
Ryan Newman started the Allstate 400 today 13th in the points standings. He really needed a good day at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in order move up in the points standings to the 12th position. But he finished 42nd with Tony Stewart taking the checkered flag.
Newman qualified 3rd for todays race behind Reed Sorenson and Juan Pablo Montoya. At the drop of the green flag Newman almost immediately started falling back. By lap 8 Newman had dropped to the 10th position.
The first caution came on lap 16. The green flag dropped on lap 20 and on lap 21 Ryan Newman brought out the second caution of the day by spinning and slamming into the wall. Newman was frustrated and blaming himself. His crew worked on his car in the garage and uncharacteristic to Newman, he stayed in the car and did not help. He usually jumps out and helps.
Ryan Newmans day ended on lap 21. Did his chances of getting into the chase end as well? Newman has been close to that 12th position in points many times this year and always ends up falling back again once he is in striking distance.
Newman has now fallen to 14th in points and 59 points out of 12th place, which is still held by Dale Earnhardt JR.
Dale Earnhardt JR maintained his 12th place in the points, while Jimmie Johnson fell another 2 places to the 9th position after having a firery crash into the whole which resulted in some singed eye lashes.
With his win, Tony Stewart did advance on more position to 5th while Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick also advanced on postion. Every on else maintained there postion except Carl Edwards who fell one postion to 6th.
That pretty much wraps up the top 12.
