As you can see by the numbers, California is not one of Ryan Newman's better tracks. Out of 9 races he has only led 7 laps and has an average finish of 17.3. His best finish here at Fontana is 3rd back in 2004 where he also finished 5th in the second race.
Ealier this year Newman finished 12th which was his best finish in 4 races at Fontana.
Newmans 2007 Chase opportunities are slipping away. If he does not have a good finish at California along with some bad finishes from those above him in the points, then he will not make the chase.

with information sharing being good at Penske this year maybe some of the 2 cars stuff will help Newman this weekend ..Fontana is basically a Michigan clone
